Pop Choir was founded in 2014 by performers and vocal coaches, Sharon Stokes and Darryl John Moulton. Sharon and Darryl were on a mission to bust the myth that singing is only for the select few.
Pop Choir aims to provides all Melbournians with a voice to perform on a stage while reaping the tremendous health benefits of singing in a modern community choir.
Originally from Adelaide, Sharon started her musical journey studying musical theatre at the prestigious Western Australian Academy Performing Arts (WAAPA) graduating with Honours in Drama.
Soon after, she began performing educational theatre shows for Book Week and started touring with the Australian company of South Pacific starring John Deterich and Katrina Reynolds. She was also a performer in Swamp Fairies who produced numerous sell-out musical and cabaret shows for the Adelaide Fringe Festival working alongside acclaimed stars Doug Parkinson and John English.
She then moved to Japan after being cast as the Bride of Frankenstein in The Monster Rock and Roll Show at Universal Studios Osaka before joining Princess Cruises as a performer and meeting Darryl.
Settling in Melbourne in 2010, Sharon and Darryl co-founded Entertainment 88, which became a leading vocal academy, and then went onto co-found Pop Choir together in 2014. Sharon continues to perform with trio The Cover Girls AU at major events across Australia and on international cruises. She has also performed in shows Triptych, Children of Eden and Aspects of Love.
Sharon’s performance and passion for singing has led her to help students to find their voice within. She is the respected conductor for Pop Choir and firmly believes ‘if you can speak, you can sing.’
An Accountant by day, Catherine is our amazing administration support assisting with emails, all membership queries and events. You can find her at our Moorabbin sessions every Thursday night, or infrequently at our other locations checking you in with her infectious smile. She joined Pop Choir back in early 2018, after giving birth to her second baby girl and looking to find a hobby just for her. Her parents would tell you that she has always been singing, from a very early age. Performed in many musicals and choirs throughout her school years, but her greatest performance was at her sister’s wedding in 2000. After finishing high school, singing was still a passion but mostly in the car and shower. Joining Pop Choir has reignited the passion of performing in a choir and being part of an amazing community making so many new and lifelong friendships.
