Voices starts on Thursday for Term 4!

Teens: 5.15-6.15pm
Juniors: 6.30pm-7.30pm
Adults: 8.15pm-9.15pm

All sessions will be held at 185 Wickham Road Morrabbin


Term 4 an 11 week term but we have 4 confirmed performances!

If you become a Voices member you have the chance to perform at so many events with the group!

Voices have been asked to perform at:

Mentone School Fete: Nov 6th at 7pm

Entertainment 88 end of year concert: Nov 21st 2015 at 2.30pm

Ripponlea Carols: Dec 11th 2015 at 7.30pm

Bayside Markets: Dec Date TBC

All Voices members will be asked if they would like to perform! If each group has enough numbers that can attend then all GROUPS will be there!

To become a member all you need to do is join within the first 2 weeks of term!

All Voices Membership’s for Adults, Teen and Juniors will receive:

·     11 weekly sessions.
·     Performances throughout the term at local events and/or for charity and Ent 88 showcases only if each group is ready
·     Professionally recorded CD with vocal parts and song lyrics to the term performance songs so you can practice anywhere, anytime.
·    Vocal tips and warm ups (on CD)

Confidence is a big thing when it comes to singing! I am so lucky to be able to hear so many beautiful voices! Quite a lot of people who start having singing lessons with us do not think they can really sing!

Sometimes all we need is to believe in ourselves just that little bit more! Especially when we are doing something we are so passionate about. Confidence will be the key to helping you reach your goals!

When you are singing next, just enjoy and love what you are singing and know that YOU do sound good and with practise and determination and CONFIDENCE you will always get better!

My story: Darryl and I had moved to London and auditioned for a production company and were flown over to Rhodes Greece for 6 months to sing in a 5 star resort! It was the dream job! A gorgeous house, car, our day times off with one whole day and night off a week and only had to sing 2 x 45 min sets each night. We arrived a week early to hand over from the duo before us! We were so excited and went to the bar on the first night to watch them!

If you can picture a 30 degree night, an open stage which looked out to around 600 people in the audience and out onto the ocean. Heaven!

When the duo before us started playing they were AMAZING!!!! Instantly self doubt started entering our minds s we were a very different set up. We played totally different styles of music. The questions in our minds started to take over: Will we be good enough, do we know our songs well enough, are we going to be able to do this??? Oh my goodness it was terrible. You see, Darryl and I were offered the job then then told we had to know around 200 songs!!! We of course said we did, so for 5 weeks before we went to Greece, we locked ourselves in our apartment in London learning songs! Gosh, the neighbours probably loved that! haha!

After a few days it was then our turn to take over the stage and Darryl and I knew we had to be confident in what we did and how we did it and of course we went up there and smashed it! We had to block those negative thoughts out and believe in what we did!

Next time you think you say to your self you can’t sing, know that you really can!!!!!!

How to Sing: Tip #4 for the voice: Hydration
Do you drink enough water???

Being hydrated is a key element in having good vocal health.

Dr. Ron Scherer explains: “I ask my students to clap their hands hard – there is a slight stinging sensation. Then, I ask them to do the same thing with a little soapy water: no sting. When you’re singing, your vocal folds are essentially slapping together. What the singer needs is a “cushion” between the folds and this is achieved by having a nice mucus coating on the vocal folds. This coating requires proper hydration.

There are always studies on how much water you should be drinking. It is finding that balance for you. If you exercise or sweat a lot more than others you will need more water to replace the fluid loss. Same for those that drink coffee or caffeinated drinks. These drinks dehydrate so you need to drink more water to stay hydrated.

Staying hydrated improves the function of so many things in your body!

Drinking room temperature water is best as this is absorbed into your blood stream better. Cold or chilled water doesn’t get absorbed as much!

If you have had a lesson with me in either of my group classes or solo lesson, I always have my water and herbal tea flask sitting by me! I tend to sip tea and water all day!

How to sing: Tip #3 for the voice: SLEEP

Thats right we all need sleep and its something that a lot of people are mentioning these days! Sleep is just so important to how we function each day in every aspect of our life.

It is so important for the voice and I know first hand from experience how sleep has affected my voice!!

Darryl and I had just finished a contract in Spain for 6 months singing in a 5 star resort and had been asked to sing on a world cruise leaving from Miami on a 6 star cruise line called Seabourn. We had flown from Spain to London then onto Miami and had one night before getting on board. I was so jet lagged I don’t know how my eyeballs didn’t fall out!!! We had to set up and play the first night on the ship from 6pm until 4am. We had celebrities on board doing shows and many high profile people wanting to be on this cruise!
Not only were we singing all hours of the night but we also had ship induction training at 7am each day for 2 weeks. Once you start a cruise contract you do not have a day off until you leave! It was only a few days into our 4 months contract! My voice went bye bye on me and i was stressed and crying and just wanted to go home! I had a voice but had lost my top notes and and found it quite hard to sing freely!

Darryl was a blessing saying its all going to be ok and it was! After 2 weeks of crazy singing and inductions I finally had a few nights where I slept properly and guess what… MY VOICE CAME BACK!
